Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf? by Krista Vrudny

The wolf comes in many shades and colors. Our current global wolf can vary with the times. Some of the current forms are: the thinning ozone layer, the economy, Avian Flu and poverty. My wolf this week has been the situation in Israel and Lebanon . What form is your wolf currently morphing into? The images and media surrounding the fighting and political uproar created a stirring dark shadow in my soul. It’s a grey sticky matter, which seeps into my thoughts and can haunt me when I close my eyes at night.

Our world is a network of energetic beams, connecting all thoughts and emotions, so we cannot avoid sharing realities and sensations with other countries and people around the globe.

This current overpowering feeling of fear, reminds me of the folktales Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs by Brothers Grimm. As many of you remember, Riding Hood is on the way to Grandmother’s house and is focused on attaining a goal. Then a dark shadow appears from behind, speaks to her and she reveals her destination to the wolf. The wolf secretly sneaks on ahead, into Grandma’s house and startles Red Riding Hood by disguising as her Grandmother.

To me, Grandma’s house brings fond memories of a warm nurturing space filled with sweet smells. This makes me question, have I invited the wolf into my safe retreat?

Whereas the Three Little Pigs encounter a slightly different scenario, when they choose different materials to create their homes out of: straw, wood or brick. The wolf scares the little pigs by huffing and puffing and threatening to blow the house down.

It’s clear that when we have a strong spiritual home the huffing and puffing cannot penetrate our thoughts or shake our foundation.

Question: Did I allow myself to become distracted from my goal? Is my Spiritual foundation strong and secure? And how can one focus on Peace, when surrounded by war?

Then I am reminded, the only way to work through a fear is to face it straight on and when you do, it shrinks. Fear is like a shadow projected on the wall, when you step back it gets bigger and when you approach, it retracts. In the American Indian culture the wolf can represent a spiritual teacher. So there are lessons which appear when we encounter the wolf. They may come in the form of compromise, honoring, maintaining our integrity or standing up for our truth.

I do not know the answers to the conflict in the Middle East, but I realize holding this fear, is unsettling to me. So I choose in this moment to face this emotion head on, not by shrinking and backing away, but by turning on the light and shining in the love.

In A Course in Miracles, it refers to the holy instant and turning on the light stating, (Feel free to change to aspect to feminine.) “The Holy Spirit asks of you but this; bring to Him every secret you have locked away from Him. Open every door to Him and bid Him enter the darkness and lighten it away. At your request He enters gladly.” (ACIM. Sharing Perception with the Holy Spirit. pg 268.)

If we all shine bright enough and focus our attention on love, it is bound to change the darkness.

I encourage you to take a moment, quiet the mind and turn on the light, sending healing to yourself and the world.
