Working Through Emotions

As far as medication goes, I am geared towards looking at more alternative natural options first.  I probably have a different opinion than a lot of people, since I come from a place of alternative healing, spirituality, listening to your intuition, and self-awareness.

I believe that if not all, most of our illnesses stem from emotional issues that are unresolved.  So here is an exercise you can try if you’re willing.

Close your eyes and focus your mind. Breathedeeply and focus on your breath. How it moves through your lungs and out your nose.  Take a few moments and really relax.  Focus your attention within.  Then when you feel ready, bring into your mind the emotion that you’re feeling, the depression, sadness, or hopelessness.  Allow that feeling to encompass you and really move into it. Experience it as completely as you can.  When you believe you are in it.  Then ask your soul/body where it is storing this emotion. Wait a few minutes and see what you get.  If you hear or feel where it is being stored, then ask it what it looks like, is it dark, heavy, sticky, light, fluffy?  Then once you get an image or a sound of what it is, then ask what you can do to begin to release it.  I often guide my clients to imagine moving that energy, thing out of their body.  Some people see it as rocks that are being removed one by one, butterflies that are flying out of the space or smoke that is moving out.

Once you feel like you have released a lot of it then you can fill the space with lighter energy, you can imagine the sun shining into it, water moving through it or a beautiful green light.  Always ask yourself first what feels right. If you need to go through the exercise more than once, always realizing you are not your emotions that they are simply moving through you like water through a faucet.

Moving Out of Depression:

Find some ways to give of your time and volunteer in whatever makes your heart sing.  A wonderful way to relieve depression is by sharing your Spirit with another.  It could be working with the homeless for an hour or two a week, helping a neighbor out, or being a big brother.

Natural Way to Boost Serotonin: Consider trying an eating trick before bed.  On an empty stomach either have a rice cake, some plain potato, or a cup of popcorn about a half an hour to an hour before bed.  The simple charbohydrate releases serotonin in the brain and assist in relaxing the body and deepening sleep. Also make sure you have dark shades on your bedroom windows to help keep the light out, since darkness is also essential to proper sleep. Getting enough sleep helps our brains and bodies recharge and focus on cleaning out our system while we sleep, allowing us to wake up fresh and rejuivinated.
